In the area of the main mountain range, the frontal and in the precordillera the call vegetation altoandina, characteristic of the Andes is developed. There, above the 2.800 meters on the level of! sea, hard grasses grow, the coirones, subjected to the winter snowfalls, to the drought and the cold winds. Above the 3.900 meters high the vegetation diminishes until disappearing, there wide mountain areas exist with permanent snow. on the mountain streams and in the slopes they are formed small oasis of height called vegas, covered by numerous resistant aquatic plants to the cold of height.
 
Area of the valleys
 
The vegetation of the region of valleys and dry depressions of the center of the province are of arid steppe, where bushes like the jansias are plentiful, pitches, we challenge, atamisques and chañares. In the areas of developed floors and with good watering possibilities they are formed the oasis of cultivated fields and the big urban centers. There are also ecological reservations of autochthonous forests with locusts of diverse species.
 
Plateau of the Payunia
 
In the volcanic plateau of the Payunia a vegetation of steppe arbustiva grows very similar to the one that is developed in the deserts of the Patagonia. There the solum, a bush adapted to the drought grows, accompanied by grasses of different classes.
 
The salines
 
On the saline areas, especially in Mendoza's northeast sector, a vegetation of saline pastizales composed for gramineous adapted to the characteristics of the floor prospers.
 
The dry forest
 

In the plains oriental mendocinas a dry forest is observed, where the locusts prevail, resistant to the aridity of the climate and of the floor; quebrachos and other bushes and trees also grow, as the retamo, the chañar, the jarilla and, to the south of the province, the caldén.
