Taking of the Spaniards (MHN)

This important work hydraulics was dedicated to derive the waters of the river toward the channel bigger than watering. The works were carried out in the century (XVIII for the architect José Comte, for order of the Marquis of Sobremonte, governor intendant

Whose. The walls, of those that are still vestiges, had 17 m of long and arches of half point. At the end of the XIX century, this work was replaced by the dike Cipolletti, built in another section of the river.

Continuing for the route, in the next 7 kms will see two power stations of energy provision that supplement the contribution coming from The Nihuil ( San Rafael ): Whitewashed Blanco's Thermal Factory and the Hydroelectric Power station Alvarez Condarco. This takes advantage of a jump of water of 81 m that falls tubed from the superior terrace to the channel of the river and it crosses the road for under.

Later on he/she will see the piletas desarenadoras that decant the material of haulage content in the waters.

To 600 m of the power station it is the Villa Switzerland, with motels, hotels, houses of tea and restaurants; they offer characteristic fondues and chocolate. They are assisted personally by indefatigable immigrants, famous for their zeal of creating a forest of pines in the arid piedemonte mendocino (... and they are achieving it!).

Forward one of the most attractive tracts in the walk begins. The route penetrates in a narrow throat, crossing a rocky tunnel. This granitic mass is the batolito of Cacheuta, a stranger witnesses in the conformation geologic precordillerana. It is been of an invasion of volcanic magma that makes millions of years it displaced the sedimentary rocks characteristic of the precordillera. Franked the first tunnel will see, to the left next to the river, the Ruins of the Factory Fader

Ruins of the Factory Fader

Inaugurated in 1910, it provided from motive force to the city until the alluvium of 1913 destroyed it. One understand it dams with floodgates, channels derivadores, a turbine and a dynamo. It was cons truida for the German engineer Carlos Fader and of her position their son Fernando was made, an outstanding painter who lost all his goods in the frustrated company. After crossing the river for the bridge, in the km 29 you arrives to Cacheuta

Cacheuta

It conserves the name of a caci that huarpe and it is a famous thermal area. It has the first hydroelectric power station of the county, built in 1926 by the Company of Electricity of the Andes , with a jump of water (it tubes do) of 42 m . This power station, with its beautiful park of coniferous in the rocks, the rail station and the thermal hotel gave life to a small pobla ción, divided in two by the river and linked by a hanging bridge of 138 m of longitude.

The town is an oil area. In 1873 their streams of tar were used to waterproof wineskins and vessels. Ten years later, Carlos Fader founded the Company Mendocina of Petroleum that began its perforations in 1886 and it provided gas of petroleum for Mendoza 's public illumination, between 1888 and 1895. Its pipeline of 34 km , spread in 1891, was the first of South America .

To the right of the route you will see the entrance signalled to the Thermal Climatic Center Cacheuta

It has a very good hotel with restaurant, living room of tea and a pleasant terrace where there is a pool and from the one that one obtains a privileged view to the canyon of the river. The thermal bathrooms are located in an artificial grotto and they offer individual bathtubs and collective pools, fed by five slopes that reach temperatures from 35° to 50°C .

You consents for the main terrace, traveling a nice recycled sector of the old hotel. The thermal baths are supplemented with a beautiful solárium.

There are also alternatives to stay more than one day, as the campings Thermal baths of Cacheuta (the entrance is after the railroads) and Don Domingo, located 4 km later on, to the right.

The road continues winding among gulches; it is narrow and with marked curves that require caution in the handling, especially the weekends, for the traffic.

In the km 39 will arrive to the picturesque valley of Potrerillos

It is located between the precordillera and the Mountain range of the Silver. This natural oasis has a splendid microclimate (in summer 5°C less than in Mendoza ). It is it furrows do for the wide channel of the river and forestado with extensive boulevards that give him particular beauty in autumn. It was a traditional area of stays. Today it possesses an excellent hotel, a small town, several campings and a restaurant. Also, offers an attractive adventure tourism. Its picturesque building Californian style, located on the summit of a hill, offers beautiful views of the environment. It has pool, restaurant and minigolf courts and tennis. Rocks volcanic efusivas are plentiful, as granites, pórfidos, porfiritas, tufas and basalt; this last one emerges in a curious hill black color. To the left of the river, other greenish, reddish and yellowish sedimentary rocks owe their tonalities to the infiltration of waters with high contents of minerals.
