Introduced fish in Argentina

Atlantic salmon     (Salmo salar)

It is salmónido that is distributed widely in the North Atlantic, from Greenland , Iceland to the peninsula of Labrador and Maine . Nevertheless their populations are in regression in most of the countries, mainly by the diminution of the egg-laying areas and, partly, by the commercial fishing in the sea. In Argentina it was seeded at the beginning of century XX but it only survived his locked up form. The salmon anádromo has appeared does few years in the river basin of the Puelo lake and it has reproduced successful, being one of the most abundant species in his youthful stage. It is a fish that reaches very great sizes, of up to 45 kg and 1.5 ms of length, if they remain enough time in the sea. It is equipped with great strength and it exhibits a tenacious fight to the captured being, reason why it is hierarchized like one of the great fish of sport value. Unlike the salmon of the Pacific that reproduces a single time, the salmon of the Atlantic can do it up to three or four times. Despite a great percentage it dies in the first time. The found oldest units have been of 13 years. An interesting aspect of its Biology, is that some males mature sexually in the river and are able to fertilize the females that raise from the sea. This covers in opportunities the deficit with males in the population that overcomes. It has two dorsal fins, first with soft radios and second fatty one. Pedúnculo of great volume is narrower than in the other adapted salmónidos ones to Argentine waters. The mouth of the males, in the oldest units is become deformed curving itself in the ends, the inferior jaw upwards and the superior one downwards.
