Cipolletti was founded in October of 1903, by the Colonel Fernández Oro, with the intention of establishing a fort one in the fork of the rivers Limay and Neuquén.
It was given the name of Colony Lucinda, and later, in 1909 received the name of Cipolletti because it called this way itself the railroad station that worked in the city from 1904.
It owes their name to the engineer hydraulic Cesar Cipolletti who not only carried out studies hídricos in this area but also in Mendoza. This engineer's studies gave place to the watering system that today sustains the production of the whole Valley.
