The fringe which extends along the west boundary is of the Andinian desert climate.
The vegetation is not well developed, the soil does not allow the growing of the flora. The altitude and the rains also contribute to the scarce flora.
There are some low bushes, which grow in the low and sheltered valleys. In the places which are crossed by rivers, the shrubs give way to some prairies and tender grass.
Some of the species are the aster, piquillin, broom, carobs, chañares, chilca, thyme and cactus. There are canes which grow by the rivers.
