History of Puerto Santa Cruz
The area was discovered May 3 1520 for the captain Juan Rodríguez Serrano, integral of the expedition of Hernando of Magellan, he discovered the mouth from the river to which Santa Cruz denominated.

It was capital of the territory up to 1887, when the governor Ramón Lista it transferred the headquarters from the government to Río Gallegos, current capital of the county.
